AFC - Pirouzi coach Ali Parvin has said that his club and traditional rivals Esteghlal are still very much in the running for the domestic league and cup titles. Pirouzi are currently sixth in the league table with 25 points from 15 games played, while Esteghlal trail in seventh a point behind. Both clubs were involved in the recently concluded AFC Champions League group stages and thus have two games in hand over the rest of the field. If both sides win their games in hand, the six points will take them up to second and third respectively. "I have always stressed that Pirouzi and Esteghlal are the defending champions of the league and cup. I still believe that both teams will prevail this season," said Parvin, the current coach who had spent his entire illustrious career at Pirouzi. "Both sides have the quality to get out of their current situation and should be amongst the front challengers before long. "It's not unusual to have two or three clubs dominating a local league. For example, Real Madrid and Barcelona have long been the dominant forces of Spanish football." |
