PlanetFootball - HAMBURG'S star winger Mehdi Mahdavikia has revealed that he would quit the Bundesliga side if they fail to qualify for Europe. Hamburg are currently fifth in the league standings which would qualify them for a Uefa Cup spot. However, any slip-up could result in Mahdavikia leaving for a top European side, with Manchester United mooted as admirers of the Iranian. "If we qualify for Europe, I will stay with Hamburg," the Iranian international said. "Then there would be no reason to leave." The 25-year-old's contract with Hamburg expires in the summer of 2004, and his agent Reza Fazeli has postponed talks of a contract extension until the end of May when the Bundesliga season ends. Hamburg's coach Kurt Jara has repeatedly voiced his concern that the former Pirouzi player could be leaving soon, and looks prepared to listen to any offers for the player. |
