MEF -  If to believe Qatari daily Al-Raya, former Croatia and Iran manager Miroslav Blasevic is nearing signing a one-year deal to coach Saudi champions Al-Ittihad, this being revealed on Tuesday in Doha.

“He is expected to land in the Egyptian capital Cairo later Tuesday afternoon, where club officials are awaiting him to finalize the last clauses of the contract,” Al-Raya daily was quoted as saying today.

Al-Ittihad have been investing heavily in local transfer market recently, following the appointment of millionaire Mansour Al-Balawi as their new president.

Blazevic, 68, coached Croatia to the third place in the 1998 World Cup finals in France, their most advanced place in the world’s biggest sports event, but failed to steer Iran to last summer’s finals in Korea and Japan.

The globe-trotter manager resigned as coach of Dinamo Zagreb after steering them to the Croatian league title, Dinamo ending with 8 points ahead of arch enemies Hajduk Split.
