Ailton set to play for Qatar

Soccerway - Werder Bremen striker Ailton, the Bundesliga's leading goal scorer this season, is set to play for the national team of Qatar.

Qatar hope that bringing in Ailton will help their chances of qualifying for World Cup 2006 in Germany. Ailton could not find a spot in his native Brazil and also tried to earn a slot on Germany's team.

It is reported Ailton will get a €1 million signing bonus plus €400,000 a match.

Of the signing, Ailton told a German newspaper, "I will fly to Qatar after [Sunday's] match against 1860 Munich and sign the contract."

Ailton will join Schalke on a free transfer at the end of the season.

In their first World Cup qualifying match, Qatar fell 3-1 to Iran.
