AP - Jason Boyce scored twice in the final eight minutes to lead the Select Stars of Iran to a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy reserve team in an exhibition game Sunday.

Boyce, who played for the Colorado Rapids and Miami Fusion of Major League Soccer, scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 83rd minute, then added an insurance goal six minutes later at UCLA's Drake Stadium.

The Galaxy tied the score in the 81st minute when Max Cream, an 18-year-old trying out for the team, scored on a header off an assist by Alexi Lalas, the Galaxy's general manager who opted to play because the team was short-handed by injuries.

The Select Stars, composed of several players who play professionally in Iran, took a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute when a loose ball went off Lalas' leg into the net for an own goal.

Lalas, 36, retired as an active player following the 2003 season and was elected to the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame May 6.

"I'm an old man, so for me it was fun to run around against these guys," Lalas said. "All in all, it was a fun game for everybody, especially for the Iranian-American community and a great way for our guys to get a quality game against some very good players."
