Austria's Salzburg eyes Karimi transfer

IRNA - Austrian first division football club Red Star Bull Salzburg is interested in hiring Bayern Munich midfielder Ali Karimi, the German-based football website transfermarkt said Saturday.

Salzburg coach Lothar Matthaeus and his Bayern counterpart Felix Magath have reportedly met in Munich to discuss a possible deal.

"Ali (Karimi) is a good player. It's questionable whether we can finance someone of his caliber," Matthaeus was quoted as saying.

Karimi whose contract with Bayern expires at the end of this season, has been mainly sitting on the bench this season.

Salzburg is currently leading the Austrian Bundesliga with 21 points out of nine matches.
