GOAL – Jorvan Vieira has been named the new coach of Iran Pro League outfit Mes.

The Brazilian, who famously led Iraq to the Asian Cup 2007 title in July, inked an 18 month deal to take charge of Mes. He will replace Farhad Kazemi, who left to join first division side Estil Azin earlier this week.

Vieira made his name as a miracle worker for Iraq.

He was appointed coach of the war-torn country - just two months before the commencement of the Asian Cup tournament. As Iraq clinched the title, they beat tournament favourites Australia 3-1, edging out heavyweights South Korea on penalties and beating Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the final.

Despite the fairy-tale finish, he did not renew his contract with Iraq. When Australia and South Korea were looking for a new coach, Vieira has been linked with the two vacant coaching positions. However, nothing resulted from the speculation. The Koreans and Socceroos have since appointed new coaches.

Mes are currently 14th in the 18-team Pro League.
