FNA - Iranian Ambassador to Madrid Davoud Salehi held talks with President of the Spanish Football Federation Angel Maria Villar in Madrid, Spain, on Saturday.

During the meeting, the two sides called for holding friendly matches between the national Iranian and Spanish soccer teams in a near future.

Referring to the status of sports in Iran, specially football, Salehi underlined that the Islamic Republic of Iran plays a great role in the field of football in Asia, the Islamic republic news agency reported.

He also cited the level of two countries' cooperation in the field of football as meager, calling for doing more in this respect.

Villar, for his part, voiced his country's willingness to ink a comprehensive cooperation agreement between the Iranian and Spanish football federations.

He also invited his Iranian counterpart Ali Kafashian to visit Spain in the near future.
