AFC - KUALA LUMPUR: Esteghlal coach Samad Marfavi has vowed to strengthen his team by including a foreign striker for their 2010 AFC Champions League campaign.

The Iran League champions were placed in Group A alongwith Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli, Qatar’s Al Gharafa and UAE’s Al Jazira in Monday’s group stage draw here.

“Winning the AFC Champions League is our target but this is the toughest group,” Marfavi (pictured) told www.the-afc.com.

“I closely follow Arab leagues but I know Al Jazira particularly well because we were in the same group last year.”

Esteghlal drew with Al Jazira 1-1 at home and played a 2-2 draw away.

Marfavi’s charges are enduring a rough patch in the domestic league having lost to Sepahan and Peykan recently and the coach did not rule out changes in the team.

“Changes are necessary to revive the team and we will do our best to strengthen the squad. I have already given a proposal to the club management for including a foreign striker,” he said.
