MNA - Milad Meydavoudi's last-gasp kick allows his Esteqlal Ahvaz to snatch a 1-0 victory against Tehran's popular soccer team Persepolis.

The 24-year-old striker netted the goal for the hosts on a free kick in the 93rd minute of the game at the Takhti Stadium in Ahvaz on Thursday.

“It was a valuable victory against the revived Persepolis,” Esteqlal Ahvaz manager Majid Baqerinia told reporters after the game.

Persepolis Croatian manager Zlatko Kranjcar, however, expressed satisfaction with his men despite the defeat by the Blues.

“I'm satisfied with my players who performed well in this game. They just failed to score,” Kranjcar said.

“Our players squander lots of opportunities because we lack a top striker to score,” he added.

In another Thursday game, Malavan gained a 2-1 win over Rah Ahan FC.

Sepahan currently tops the Iranian Premier League (IPL) with 37 points, followed by Zob Ahan on 33. Moqavemat will face the Tehran-based Esteqlal on Friday sits third in the table.
