PLDC - Iran’s campaign at the 2025 FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup in the Philippines came to an end after a 3–1 defeat to Italy in the final Group D match on Sunday.
Iran started brightly and nearly scored in the opening minute through Mahtab Banaei, whose shot went just wide. The breakthrough finally came in the 10th minute when goalkeeper Farzaneh Tavasoli sent a long ball forward that found its way into goal after a clever screen by Fereshteh Khosravi, giving Iran a shock lead.
Italy responded with constant pressure and strong attacking play. After halftime, the European side turned the match around with three goals inside five minutes, taking control of the game. A late long-range strike added the third as Iran pushed forward with a power play.
Iran finished third in Group D, three points behind Italy, who advance to the quarterfinals to face Portugal.
